RESUMO

The aim of this study was to prepare poly-N-isopropylmethacrylamide-co-acrylic acid-acrylamide [p-(NIPMAM-co-AA-AAm)] via precipitation polymerization in an aqueous medium. Rhodium nanoparticles were formed in the microgel network by an in-situ reduction technique with the addition of sodium borohydride as a reducing agent. Pure p-(NIPMAM-co-AA-AAm) and hybrid microgels [Rh-(p-NIPMAM-co-AA-AAm)] microgels were examined by using UV-Visible, FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) techniques. The catalytic activities of the hybrid microgel [Rh-(p-NIPMAM-co-AA-AAm)] for the degradation of azo dyes such as alizarin yellow (AY), congo red (CR), and methyl orange (MO) were compared and the mechanism of the catalytic action by this system was examined. Various parameters including the catalyst amount and dye concentration influenced the catalytic decomposition of azo dyes. In order to maximize the reaction conditions for the dye's quick and efficient decomposition, the reaction process was monitored by spectroscopic analysis. The rate constants for reductive degradation of azo dyes were measured under various conditions. When kapp values were compared for dyes, it was found that [Rh-(p-NIPMAM-co-AA-AAm)] hybrid microgels showed superior activity for the degradation of MO dyes compared to the reductive degradation of CR and AY.

RESUMO

In elderly aged people, Parkinson's disease is reported as 2nd most prevailing neuro-degenerative disease. Presently benzothiazole derivatives are gaining attention after showing positive results in various animal models for the investigation of different motor-diseases. In Current work, the 2- (2 Thienyl)Benzothiazoline is synthesized and its therapeutic effect was evaluated against rotenone-induced Parkinson's disease. It was expected to obtain the positive results in the treatment because thiophen group has been successfully reported in various literature as effective agent in the treatment of cognitive and locomotory disease. So, we used a Parkinson's inducive compound rotenone and injectedit intraperitoneally. The dose that we were used was 1.5mg/kg and treatment proceeded for 8 days in rats as rotenone inhibit the functioning of mitochondrial complex I. Administration of 2- (2 Thienyl)Benzothiazoline (10mg/kg per day) was already started 15 days prior to rotenone dose injection. The effects of both pre-treatment and without pre-treatment of 2- (2 Thienyl)Benzothiazoline were assessed by the use of various motor parameters of behavior such as pole test and Kondziela's inverted screen test for checking muscular strength, whereas inclined plane test, open field test and Rota rod test for motor coordination. Pre-treatment with drug reversed the gross motor impairments which were produced by rotenone. We conclude that 2- (2 Thienyl)Benzothiazoline, like its other candidate drug also protects against destructive effects of the compound rotenone and itcan be used as beneficial drug against various neurodegenerative diseases.

RESUMO

Fabrication of poly-(N-isopropylmethacrylamide-co-methacrylic acid) [p(NMA)] microgels to be utilized as microreactors to synthesize stable Ag nanoparticles for catalytic reductive degradation of dyes has been addressed in this work. Both p(NMA) microgel and Ag-p(NMA) hybrid microgel systems have been analyzed by Fourier transform infra-red and Dynamic light scattering, Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Transmission electron microscopy. Catalytic activity of Ag-p(NMA) towards reductive degradation of Congo Red (CR), Methyl Orange (MO) and Alizarin Yellow (AY) was investigated under different operating conditions. Spectrophotometry was employed to check the progress of reaction while the rate constant (kapp) value of degradation reaction was determined under various conditions to optimize reaction parameters for rapid and economical degradation of these dyes. An increase in kapp value was observed by increasing feed content of dye up to a certain value that decreases again by further increment in dye concentration which reflects that catalysis follows Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism. A gradual increase in the kapp value was also observed with increasing quantity of hybrid microgel used as a catalyst. By comparing kapp values of degradation of aforementioned dyes, it was found that Ag-p(NMA) hybrid microgel gives better activity for MO dye degradation in comparison to catalytic degradation of CR and AY.

RESUMO

Viral outbreaks are a common cause of morbidity and mortality in livestock and human populations. Lack of good vaccines and poor control measures along with natural viral genetic drifting and shifting are the common causes of new viral strains and outbreaks. The current study reports the synthesis of some 2-aryl substituted thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acids 1a-h and their 3-acetyl 2a and 3-benzoyl derivatives 3a. Two important poultry viruses: Avian influenza virus (AIV; A/Chicken/Italy/1994/H9N2) and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) were selected, grown in 9-11 days old chicken embryonated eggs , and subjected to in ovo anti-viral assays. Most of the synthesized compounds were found active against AIV subtype H9N2 and IBV. In the case of AIV, the best results were attained for compound 1d which showed an IC50 value of 3.47 µM, while IBV 1c showed IC50 value of 4.10 µM. The lower IC50 values of these compounds correlate with the high potency of these compounds, especially in comparison with control groups. The standard drugs amantadine and ribavarin were used as positive controls in the case of AIV and IBV, respectively. Better results were obtained with 2-aryl substituted thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acids 1a-h compared to their N-acylated derivatives 2a and 3a against both viruses. In conclusion, this preliminary data support the idea that thiazolidine carboxylic acids could be used as anti-viral drugs against AIV and IBV infections.

RESUMO

Four new ecdysteroids (1-4), along with three known steroids, ß-ecdysone (5), 5-ß-2-deoxyintegristerone A (6) and 24-epi-makisterone A (7) (Fig. 1), were isolated from the methanolic extract of the flowers of Aerva javanica by using normal and reverse phase chromatography. The structures of the new compounds (1-4) were determined due to 1D ((1)H and (13)C), 2D NMR (HSQC, HMBC, COSY, NOESY) techniques and high resolution mass spectrometry (HREIMS). The known compounds (5-7) were characterized based on the 1D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry and by comparison with the literature values. All isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against enzymes acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and lipoxygenase (LOX).
